Welcome To My Blog

I'm a country girl at heart but have, from time to time, transplanted myself into various cities around the world. I enjoy both for different reasons but it's obvious that you can't take the 'country' out of the girl :) I hope you enjoy your visit here. If you'd like to leave comments, please feel free.

Today's Lesson

I see it's been a long while since I 'blogged' here, but have recently made a decision to restart and to continue, but in a different vein.  One reason is to document my activities, thoughts and creations for myself primarily, but also it may help others who are interested in the same things and at a similar point on their journey.  I also see it as a discipline which I need to cultivate more of in my life. My progress is somewhat slow and I believe this will be a great place to start to move myself forward.  I've also noticed that I avoid doing the work that WILL move me forward, hence the feeling I have of going nowhere :)

Here we go then . . . . . .

Let's start with this morning . . . . .  I was expecting a wet day, it rained heavily in the night and so I decided to not go to the market today with my goods. I have a FB page for my stall which you can read about here  Notice that I've just proven that our thoughts dictate our actions !!  I awoke at 8.30 - well and truly late for a market stall as it begins at 8am, to see the sky bright and mostly clear blue with an occasional cloud.  No chance of going now.

I was a bit cross with myself for a while and then set about deciding what I was going to do for the next 8 hours.

For a few days now I have had my recipes out, sorting a few, throwing out a lot and general revisiting them, looking for something to make for myself.  I love making and eating brioche so that was what I decided to make and had all the ingredients.  I've a bag of quinces I bought at the market yesterday which need to be made into something, but needed more sugar for that, so shelved the idea for another day.  A sneek peek inside my fridge will reveal several small jars of quince paste made a couple of weeks ago to sell, but I have the feeling that they won't get out of there intact.
Before they go in the oven.

Just out of the oven

I put little poached quince pieces in the centre.
I really enjoyed making these for 2 reasons. One was that I love working with yeast doughs and two because I bought these special brioche tins way back in '78 in France and have hardly used them since. It's made me remember my time there.

Now the sun has gone behind the hill and it's only 2.45 so have to get out into the sun - maybe a walk on the beach.  Having learned a lesson well today I can go and treat myself :)
